Calling your attention to AgriWest. CO Springs residents: weigh in on Federal housing grants! Weld County hyper-local coverage.
Calling your attention to AgriWest
I noticed a hashtag recently on Facebook (it was connected to the Van Winkle's excellent pages on cattle) and looked into it. I thought it would be a good thing to share with you.
One of the big concerns in Ag right now is getting new people and new opportunities in that sector. The Western Slope has a business incubator with a section specifically devoted to filling this need.
Quoting from their webpage:
"AgriWest is a groundbreaking economic development initiative dedicated to enhancing agricultural sustainability and food security in Western Colorado. Our mission is to diversify the agricultural sector, create jobs, and fortify the local economy. With 40% of the region’s economy tied to agriculture, AgriWest aims to future-proof the industry against challenges like water scarcity and evolving technologies. By connecting local farmers, ranchers, and growers, we preserve our region’s heritage while shaping a resilient agricultural future."
I applaud the effort. If you are on the Western Slope and thinking of expanding your operation or getting into Ag, look around in the link below. If you're not on the Western Slope, ask around and see if you have an economic development office locally, and, if so, whether or not they have a special chapter related to Ag. If the answer is no and you've been looking for a way to contribute to this state, see if there's a way you could help start one.
Please also share the link below with anyone you think would be interested.

Weld County hyper-local coverage.
Do you live in Weld County or know someone that does?
Like I did earlier about Cortez, I wanted to share something a reader shared with me, another hyper-local news outlet.
The Concerned Weld Citizen's Substack newsletter is linked below. If you live in Weld or know someone that does, give it a look. The part that was shared with me, what caught my eye, was the exact same thing that stuck out about the Cortez outlet: this newsletter seems to have a focus on transparency and local involvement.
Maybe not done in the same way, but the focus is apparent. Looks like a good way to stay on top of Weld's schools and local government.
This is a story roiling on the verge of boiling. If I were a prospective teacher or state worker I
would certainly ask government hiring authorities about a 0.75% yearly cost of living increase after 30 years of contributing 11% of my salary for my retirement. PERA needs an additional funding source other than extraordinarily high employee/employer payroll contributions if it is to continue as a livable defined benefit retirement.
