RTD has problems, but it’s got one other thing you ought to know about.
Whether or not you use bus or light rail, if you're in RTD's taxing district, you're paying.
Free State Colorado did another interview I wanted to share, this one with Kathleen Chandler (a candidate for the RTD board, and someone whose candidacy I endorse) about RTD.
RTD has problems, lots of them.
But, as they put it in the interview, RTD has a secret. They are run by elected and not appointed officials. That is, you have a voice in policy and can change leadership.
With some seats up for grabs and RTD's ballot measure to permanently de-TABOR also coming, it's important to go into this election informed.
Watching the interview is definitely a great way to start.
Sharing the link below if you know someone in the district is another good idea.
There's a hole in your bucket dear Jesse Aaron Paul...
There's a glaring hole in the Sun story by politics reporter Jesse Aaron Paul.
I mean, maybe it's not glaring if you're a supporter of Ranked Choice Voting (RCV), but it is if you are a fan of full explanations or don't like RCV.
In the Sun article linked first below you will see Mr. Paul stretch and pull and stretch to get a partisan poll into a "news" article about RCV.
Part of that is to include an "explainer" video about how RCV works by the chipper youngsters at Minnesota Public Radio. That video is linked second below.
Both the Sun and the MPR video have a hole in them; both leave out a critical issue that I'm pretty sure most voters would want to know about RCV: the possibility that your vote just won't count. That is, that your vote would be tossed out if you happened to have the wrong list of candidates.
I mean, it's quite possible for your vote to not MATTER in a regular election. I'm thinking here of anyone who, say, votes Republican in Boulder.
But at least if you vote Republican in Boulder, your vote is still registered. It's tabulated and shown to others. It says something, even if that's just how many people disagree.
If your ballot is "exhausted" in the RCV process, it goes away.
You won't see that in the video, you won't see it in Mr. Paul's article, so in order to fill in that hole, I linked to a Wikipedia page for exhausted ballots third below so you can have a good jumping off point to finish up the work that the Sun and MPR don't (intentionally?) do.
