I called about Logan County local government TABOR issues. You should call and ask about yours. A Free State CO interview on Ranked Choice Voting.
I called to find my Logan County local government TABOR issues. You should call and ask about yours.
The deadline to get local ballot issues on your local ballot passed recently. As such I called the Logan County Clerk and Recorder's Office to see about anything on the ballot in Logan County.
There is a measure in the City of Sterling, CO
There is a measure in Merino, CO
There is a measure in Crook, CO
There is a measure in the Frenchman Re-3 District (Fleming, CO schools).
Why call and ask? The answer is simple. You as a citizen have a right to provide a pro or con statement on any local ballot issues for the taxing district you reside in. You should take advantage of this right because speaking up on local issues can have a huge effect, especially compared to statewide issues.
That is, the ratio of results to effort is bigger.
I am already trying to get my comment in on the Sterling, CO issue. I called the city clerk and have a voicemail in as of this writing. When I hear back, I will look over the measure and send in my thoughts.
Do you live in any of the other Logan Districts? If you do, call in or email and ask about the measure and how they want their pro/con statements delivered. Having trouble getting started or intimidated by the process? I got you.
Well, Ms. Menten has you. She wrote up a guide which I linked to at bottom.
Don't put it off, the deadline's coming up sooner than you'd think. Sept 20th.
If you don't live in Logan, don't fret. You still have time. Contact your own clerk and recorder and ask about local TABOR ballot issues then contact the taxing authorities for where you live.
Speak up. It's your money and no one else will do it for you.

CPR article below gives a run down on some local school districts asking for more money.
Something important to note in this: look at how long any new tax runs and whether or not excess is allowed to be kept.

Prop 131 on your November ballot would bring Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) to Colorado.
Near the end of Mr. Wark's interview with Ms. Stutzriem on RCV a graphic with Benjamin Franklin comes up and is put next to his quote: "a republic if you can keep it".
That is so apt for RCV because it would fundamentally alter the way we do elections, and it would fundamentally alter the principle we have had since founding times that one person gets one vote and these votes are all equal (here I point you to about the 21:50 mark of the video for elaboration).
If you haven't yet read up on anything re. RCV watch this video. Take a look through any of my 3 earlier newsletters that touch on the topic.
Educate yourself about what's going on and talk this over with others. It will indeed only be a republic for as long as we keep it.
