Don't Know Much About TABOR? Know someone else who doesn't?
Watch/share the video below. It's a Free State CO interview on the topic and the multiple benefits you may (depending) not know you have, or take for granted.**
Learn what TABOR is about so you can better defend it against the nearly-continuous onslaught your rights face from some politicians in this state.
**Put the three-years-ago me into this category. I took TABOR for granted before I started paying attention to politics. I DO NOT now that I know all the things it does.
Uncle Sam is asking you to take his money ...
I usually stick to local issues, but my local county commissioner Jerry Sonnenberg received an email from Senator Hickenlooper's Plains Liaison that he forwarded to me and I thought I would share with you.
Thought you might find it interesting, gives a window into what Senator Hickenlooper and others in DC think is important to rural Coloradans on the Eastern Plains.
Let me share the preamble from the email. Quoting it:
"Welcome back to Senator Hickenlooper’s Grant Digest, a compilation of current federal grant opportunities!"
"With historic investments from our Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, Inflation Reduction Act, and CHIPS + Science Act, Colorado is set to receive BILLIONS in funding for key priorities, including for critical infrastructure goals, climate initiatives, American manufacturing, and more. Senator Hickenlooper is working hard to ensure that Colorado continues to receive its fair share of these federal investments, and our office is eager to serve as a resource for more information, answer additional questions, and assist with your application."
"We are continuing to track competitive funding opportunities, and have rounded up a directory of current grant applications and information below. We update this list every month, and will always spotlight some recent news of great investments and activities hitting the ground in Colorado."
Let me repeat a key phrase here. "... key priorities, including for critical infrastructure goals, climate initiatives, American manufacturing, and more."
To give you a sense of what Hick and others think of fit that description, I took screengrabs of the grants mentioned in the email and attached.
Under the heading: "Transportation, Roads, Bridges, Economic Development", you will see the grants in screengrabs 1a and 1b.
Not too bad. What's that there at the top of 1b? With today's prices we probably could use help buying any sorts of materials to fix our infrastructure, let alone low-carbon ones.
Things go off the rails, however, when you look at the grants under the heading "Energy, Natural Resources, and Climate". That's screengrabs 2a and 2b.
Not all of the things in there are bad, but I return to a question similar to that for the low-carbon building materials in the previous set. Look through those grants, especially if you live out on the Plains, and ask yourself how much in there reflects your needs.
And then remind yourself that the Federal government is operating in a deficit on top of continuing to borrow to fund things like this.
After you've done that, remind yourself that your children and grandchildren will pay this back.
Yep, Senator Hickenlooper, your feel good, here's some money don't forget who gave it to you when it's time to vote (wink wink) bills are just what the doctor ordered for rural America.
